Above is my execution of a cameraless film, produced through writing, scratching, drawing on and perforating several pieces of film, then splicing them together. Inspired by the works and techniques of such people as Paul Bush and his work The Albatross, this film has been created to explore a sense of rhythm. The repetition of the colour red, as well as the figure who appears initial in radical spurts and then proceeds to be revealed, help to accentuate this rhythm, along with the very nature of frames and their rates. As the film progresses, it moves from unknowable shapes and objects to faces, figures and bodies, while still self-referring back with the continuation of the colour red to keep that theme. This reflects Bush’s work as he creates a sense of his themes by changing his background colours to reflect the desired mood.
